Sensex at day's high

The Sensex after displaying volatility for sometime has soared higher. The index is now at 16,863, up 167 points. - Ranbaxy up on WHO"s nod for AIDs drug - Mahindra Satyam down 5% on L&T"s stake sale - Sensex opens flat - Positive IIP numbers fail to enthuse markets - Mutual funds" investor base falls in October - FII-TO-FII TRADES: PNB traded at 6% premium The NSE Nifty is at 5,001, up 48 points. ____________________________________________ (Updated at 1018hrs) The Sensex after opening flat at 16,693, rebounded into the positive zone to touch a high of 16,790. The index is now at 16,799, up 103 points. The NSE Nifty is at 4,982, up 30 points. The BSE Capital goods index is up 1% at 13,538. Grasim Industries has added 1.5% at Rs 2,304. Larsen & Toubro, Maruti and HDFC Bank are around 1% each. Jaiprakash Associates has slipped 1.5% to Rs 232.65. The other losers are DLF, Sterlite, TCS and Tata Steel,down above 0.5% each. The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 1,398 shares traded, 878 have advanced and 487 have declined so far on the BSE. VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS Mahindra Satyam has topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs 389.82 crore. It is followed by SBI (Rs 23.42 crore), Educomp Solution (Rs 21.51 crore), DLF (Rs 19.27 crore) and Jaiprakash Associates (Rs 18.21 crore). Mahindra Satyam has also topped the volume chart on the BSE with trades of 34.90 million shares. It is followed by Wire & Wireless India (7.38 million), Maral Overseas (2.58 million), FSL ( 2.44 million) and Suzlon (2.2 million) shares.
